How to hire a good and licensed electrician?

Check the license and BBB report first!

Hiring a Licensed Electrician

Before hiring an electrician or any other contractor, consumers should know who they are dealing with. All contractors in every trade in California are required to be licensed with the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). No matter what “class” or type of work they do, they are all assigned a unique six-digit license number that can be looked up on their website to determine if it is actual, current and valid for what you want done. It will also tell you if a contractor is covered by worker’s compensation, bonded and insured.

A contractor is required to inform you if they are covered by commercial general liability insurance: Knowingly hiring someone who isn’t insured may make you liable for an injury they sustain on your property! Any work whose total value exceeds $499 requires that all of the contractors involved be licensed. A legitimate contractor is pleased and proud to share this information - it costs more to play by the rules.
